    #NordicGivesBack [4-min. recap]

Posted by Nordic on May 24, 2016 4:03:17 PM

Last week over 140 Nordic consultants and home office team members participated in Nordic’s Community Giveback Week. We’re thankful that we had the opportunity to volunteer with 10 organizations across the U.S. and serve a combined 385 hours last week. As one Nordic team member said, "It's fun to take a break from day-to-day work to do something special for others."

We kicked off the week with the state of Madison address by United Way of Dane County CEO Renee Moe. Renee shared more insight into the impact we can make in our communities. After her address, we enjoyed lunch catered by Culinary Creations Catering, a food service employer for individuals who have overcome significant life barriers. You can learn more about our time with Renee here.

We’re in the middle of Nordic’s Community Giveback Week during which we're striving to make an impact in the communities where we live and work. We have service events going on in multiple cities across the country

Here in Madison, we’ve been partnering with Second Harvest Foodbank for years, and we’ll be volunteering there later this week. One of their more recent initiatives, the HungerCare Coalition, caught our attention as they are focusing on educating and encouraging healthcare professionals to treat food insecurity as a medical condition.

    What is food insecurity?

The most basic definition is the inability to provide an adequate amount of nutritious food on a regular basis.

    Why does food insecurity matter?

In Wisconsin, 1 in 8 are food insecure, and 1 in 5 of our children are food insecure. These are the local numbers. Although it may vary across the country, we know any amount of food insecurity is simply too much.
