You : your EHR :: Me : my skis

Despite the warm weather here in Madison, I'm back at my Birkie (cross-country ski marathon) training. Last year, I had my worst finish and most terrible experience ever. I could have possibly understood it if I hadn’t trained, but the truth is, I trained pretty hard.

Skis-Blog.jpgWhat made the experience terrible? After about 10k, my skis felt like they had sandpaper on the bottom. I blamed myself for not training hard enough – until I took my skis in for service at the end of the ski season. It turns out that the shop that had previously serviced my skis had burnt the ski surfaces during my first-ever stone grind. What that meant is that the skis just physically could not absorb the wax necessary to ensure an efficient 50k race. And I paid. In a big way.

What does that have to do with your EHR? The fact is that you may have some “ski surfaces” that need to be looked at by an expert, someone who has seen dozens of systems and configurations.

I had noticed during training that my skis seemed slow, but I just assumed I needed better technique. Are you noticing some areas that just don’t seem right, but you’re not sure exactly what’s wrong? That’s the time to get some expert eyes on your EHR.

At Nordic, we have application experts available to do rapid, targeted analysis of your EHR to find quick changes that can lead to huge performance gains (i.e., ROI).

Now, before we blame all of our performance on the equipment, let’s consider the other side of the equation – the athlete’s technique.

I had certainly trained hard, but I’ve also been training roughly the same way I had been training for all the other Birkies. It’s probably about time for me to have someone assess my training plan and help me see opportunities to more effectively build athletic capacity and improve my technique.

The same is true for your workflows. Have you been using the same workflows for as long as you can remember? There are so many opportunities to improve your care, even before anyone touches the EHR. Just like a professional athlete gets a fitness assessment and recommendations for changes in technique, it may be time to have someone look at the general fitness of your workflows, whether clinical or revenue, and show you where your greatest opportunities for improvement lie.

At Nordic, we offer a number of assessments to do just that.

As you continue on the marathon of continuous improvement of patient care (and efficient business processes), let the Nordic team of experts get you to the goal in record time.
