For the last six years, Nordic Senior Project Manager Troy Dreyer has participated in the Madison Tour de Cure, which benefits the American Diabetes Association each spring. He will be riding again at this year’s event on Saturday, May 16.
It’s a cause with a personal impact on Troy, who is a type-one diabetic. In addition, his father and brother are also diabetic.
“There’s a lot of family history,” he said, “and we’ve experienced firsthand what organizations like the ADA can provide.”
In each of the last three years, Troy has assembled a Nordic team that has been one of the top five corporate fundraisers for the event. He has matched every donation up to $2,000 each year and will be doing so again this year. During that stretch, he’s put together the event’s second-highest individual fundraising effort each year. In three years of riding, the Nordic team has raised nearly $21,000 for the cause.
“It’s great to have coworkers who are really supportive and see a cause and are willing to support it.”
This year has given him and the Nordic team another reason to ride and ask for support. Every 17 seconds, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with diabetes. In March, Troy’s 16-month-old niece received that diagnosis. Since then, she’s started treatment and is doing well.
Registration is still open for anyone who would like to ride with Team Nordic. Riders can choose from plenty of event distances to fit any experience level. For anyone who would like to help the cause but can’t make it to the event, donations can be submitted online.
